The crucial need for aviation development was emphasized again by ICAO’s third annual World Aviation Forum in November 2017, due to its overall positive impact and economic benefits. The industry’s success in terms of healthy growth rates, however, is a burden at the same time. Addressing the resulting air navigation and airport infrastructure requirements entails massive capital spending for modernization and expansion in the air and on the ground. Estimates for these investments amount to USD 1.8tn over the next 15 years. For airport infrastructure alone, the Centre for Aviation (CAPA) approximated that USD 1tn was not sufficient for the next three decades.
