Throughout my research career, I have witnessed the prosperity of the Danio rerio (zebrafish) in science. My first direct contact with the zebrafish as an experimental model was around 2015 when I was working in an environmental mutagenesis lab and some peers used it for toxicity screening. I have been working with fish since I was an undergraduate biology student, not surprisingly, since fishing was something I remember doing with my father and family at an early age. Since I joined the Butantan Institute’s Zebrafish Platform in Brazil, I have been fully dedicated to increasing the knowledge and use of zebrafish in toxicology, pharmacology, immunology, and biotechnology.
