Very few airport CEOs would dispute the need to incorporate more digitization into the businesses they lead. As highlighted by ACI World’s recent traffic forecasts, many regions are now exceeding their pre-pandemic passenger traffic levels, with forecast numbers continuing to grow significantly over the next 20 years. Global passenger traffic is expected to reach nearly 20 billion in 2042, double the 2024 projection. In 2052, global passenger traffic is expected to reach close to 25 billion, approximately 2.5 times the 2024 projection. This requires CEOs to balance a need to know ever more about their airport’s functioning with a significant reduction in their post-pandemic workforce. Simply building more infrastructure is neither a smart nor efficient solution for an airport system.
